1. During the National FFA Leadership Conference, downtown Indianapolis is reorganized to receive the 54,000 + students and their teachers and chaperones, as well as numerous college students and personnel from around the country who are their to recruit for their perspective schools. In addition to the leadership workshops the conference provides it also gives way to a huge career show where students can talk to representatives from various Agriculture companies including, perspective jobs in law enforcement, private investigations, and CSI. Yes, even Agriculture needs CSI to help in discovery of crime prevention or investigation. Other areas of interest also includes the military, research and development, and the legal profession. So Agriculture is more than just Cows and Plows!
After the Leadership Conference in Indianapolis approximately 200 California students continued on the tour the Nation's Capitol and the many monuments that are on display. In addition to the pictures that are here the students also had a guided tour of the National Cathedral, a stunningly beautiful place, with so many different smaller chapels and prayer rooms that one would be lost with out a guide; and the Bureau of Printing and Engraving where our money is printed on a daily basis. Students also visited the National Archives, a variety of the Smithsonian's, Library of Congress and the Nation's Senate...

Fall 2007 News Update: The beginning of the school also marks the beginning of the Antelope Valley Fair and for the students in the Agribusiness Academy and our FFA chapter it is a busy-busy time. Many of the projects that the students who enter their projects into fair are the end result of months of hard work and dedication. Many of the projects are started as far back as the fall of the previous school year. This year our Littlerock students have had quite a few proud moments thus far. Our livestock show team has done well with their livestock projects: Jessica Briggs won Reserve Champion FFA market lamb and Champion FFA market hog. Jiggs Briggs grabbed hold of Supreme Reserve Champion Turkey as well as the class winning light weight FFA hog. Many of our students also place in the top ten in showmanship: Jessica Briggs 4th place in sheep and 6th in swine; Stephen Borgia 7th place in sheep, Jiggs Briggs 10th place in sheep. Some of our students are new members to the team, therefore are allowed to participate in novice showmanship, the honors here go to Rion Page who placed 9th in sheep showmanship and 5th in swine; Robert Dick who placed 2nd in swine allowing him to go on to Master Showmanship and 8th in sheep; and CJ Siegfried with honorable mention in swine. Other members of the team include Kevin Arzate, Alexandria Barkley, Erin Campbell, Robin Dick, and Andrea Hernandez. Other fair high lights include Jiggs Briggs with Best of Show in Horticulture and Stephen Borgia with Best of Show in Agriculture Mechanics. Other students also participated with numerous plant and mechanics projects but the list of winners was not available at the time of this publication and will be reported in the winter newsletter. But wait it does not stop here! The Agribusiness students participate in many leadership conferences and for the fall they will be attending the High Desert, Southern California and the Green Hand conferences. Some of the students also compete on different judging teams such as livestock, horticulture, farm power, vegetable, and horse teams. These teams will be competing at numerous competitions through out the year as well, with the first up at the LA County Fair in two weeks. The final highlight for this newsletter is the National FFA Conference that five of our students will be attending in October. Stephen Borgia entered in his Science Fair project at the Southern California Regional level last March and won the Engineering division, with this same project Stephen won the Engineering division at the State FFA Agriscience fair which in turn gives him honor to compete on a national level at the National FFA Conference in Indianapolis. Only five students in each state receive this honor each year. The students that will be accompanying him are Jessica Briggs, Alexandria Barkley, Linsedy Delikta, and Luis Nichols. Look for more updates for the academy in the winter newsletter.
